Sustainability
This is where we stand. This is what we stand for.

Doing business responsibly. Conserving resources. Supporting climate action.

Sustainable business practices and the responsible use of resources have been key components of Gemino’s corporate management for many years. This is reflected in numerous measures we take in our day-to-day work: from energy-efficient LED lighting and environmentally conscious travel policies to the use of green electricity for our offices and hosted servers.

Our carbon footprint: Measure, understand, and reduce

Since 2021, we have been reporting our greenhouse gas emissions annually in accordance with the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol). In doing so, we take emissions from Scopes 1 through 3 into account: direct emissions from our own or controlled sources, indirect emissions from purchased energy, and other indirect emissions along our value chain.

Our goal is to keep our greenhouse gas emissions as low as possible and to take advantage of further opportunities for reduction.

We had already implemented many key measures to prevent and reduce emissions before we began to report emissions systematically in 2021. Given the nature of our business as well as the size and structure of our company, the remaining potential for reduction is limited. Nevertheless, we regularly review where further improvements can be made.

Our greenhouse gas footprint – transparent since 2021

We track our carbon footprint annually using KlimAktiv’s carbon calculator. The evaluation is performed after the end of each fiscal year as soon as all necessary data is available – usually in the second or third quarter of the following year.

For the 2025 fiscal year, we reported greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 115 metric tons of CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e).

Detailed information on the evaluation methods, system limitations, and results can be found in our annual greenhouse gas reports, which we will be happy to provide upon request.

An overview of our greenhouse gas footprint:

Reference year Reported emissions Additional climate protection contributions Certification standard
2021 355 metric tons of CO₂e 68 metric tons of CO₂e* SD VISta
2022 179 metric tons of CO₂e 190 metric tons of CO₂e Gold standard
2023 156 metric tons of CO₂e 170 metric tons of CO₂e Gold standard
2024 120 metric tons of CO₂e 132 metric tons of CO₂e Gold standard
2025 115 metric tons of CO₂e Not yet documented Not yet documented

* In 2021, emissions from our external international translation partners were not yet included in Scope 3. The figures for each year are therefore only comparable to a limited extent.

An additional contribution to climate protection: Gold Standard-certified projects

In addition to our measures to prevent and reduce emissions, we support international climate protection projects by purchasing and retiring emission allowances.

Starting with the 2022 reporting year, we have been focusing on projects that are certified according to the internationally recognized Gold Standard. The corresponding certificates (Verified Emission Reductions, VERs) are retired, and the retirement is documented in the Gold Standard’s public registry.

In this way, we are making an additional financial contribution to climate protection measures outside our own value chain.

It is important for us to make a clear distinction: Funding these projects complements our own climate protection measures. It does not reduce the emissions reported in our greenhouse gas inventory, and we do not present it as evidence that our company is climate neutral.
