Touching base – A brief interview with our employees
Five questions for Christine Schwartz-Ebrahimi, Head of Partner Management
Hello Christine! You have been responsible for partner management for a year now. Which partners does Gemino work with?
“We work with both freelancers and translation agencies that comply with the ISO 17100 quality standard. Due to our life science and technology focus, our partners naturally need to have corresponding experience in these subject areas.”
What are the biggest challenges in your job?
“There are a lot of challenges in fact. It’s always pretty exciting when I need to find an interpreter for a rare dialect, for example an Indian one. The needle in the haystack, so to speak. Or a translator to translate yet another important board presentation for us over the weekend. With rush jobs like this, I then have to turn on all my charm and am happy to find someone who can make it happen for our customers.”
What changes are you seeing in your field?
“The demands in our industry today are higher than ever. Linguists have to be willing to keep learning to use new tools and technologies. Machine translation is also an issue. As a language service provider, we are increasingly asking for services such as post-editing of machine translation or MT-assisted translation.”
If a fairy godmother gave you one wish to change anything in our industry, what would it be?
“I would wish for an inexhaustible pool of motivated, competent linguists who are open to new ideas and willing to develop together with our company.”
And finally, a personal question: What do you do when you’re not looking for interpreters for rare Indian dialects for Gemino?
“To stay on the ball in my field, I still work part-time as a translator and handle smaller orders for my own long-standing clients in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.
At home, my family keeps me busy with my husband, two daughters and two cats. And in my free time, I try to squeeze in playing the piano, riding my bike, jogging and playing a little tennis.”
